This week we look at yet another life changed by Jesus. In our text, the gospel writer Mark tells us that word has gotten out about Jesus’ power to heal, deliver, and change lives, which draws crowds of people to Jesus. This leads four guys to do something daring — to bring their paralyzed friend to Jesus for healing by literally lowering him through the roof of the house Jesus was teaching in. The story breaks down into two parts: 1) the first part is about Jesus’ ministry to the man on the mat; 2) the second is about the revelation of Jesus’ words spoken to the scribes questioning Jesus. Both moments in the story help us see Jesus more clearly and help us better understand how Jesus wants to change our lives.
