Sometimes the biggest changes show up in the smallest ways. The biggest change imaginable is the good news about Jesus: Jesus is Lord. His death and resurrection show us that He has authority over all things. That’s what His Kingdom is – where His authority is perfectly realized. And that’s what our hope is – His Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven, when He returns. This week we see how He brings God’s Law to its fulfilment around oaths and vows. God wants the truth. He wants us to say what we mean and mean what we say. It seems like such a small thing, but imagine the difference in the world where Christ’s followers pursued deeper truth and integrity in everything they said and did? Seemingly small things can bring the preserving presence of God into our world and shine His light in the darkness. Jesus is Lord and His lordship shows up in what comes out of our lips.
