Pursue Jesus with His Word

Sept 18, 2022

Pursuing Jesus

This fall we are looking at what it means to pursue Jesus through the words of Jesus in the Gospel of John. John opens his gospel in a unique way, calling Jesus the ‘Word’ that “became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (1:14). It means that Jesus is God’s living Word to us. Later in John 8, Jesus said to his disciples, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (vv.31-32). And then in John 15, Jesus says, “If you love me, keep my commands.... Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them” (vv.15,21). In these words of Jesus, we see that pursuing Jesus is wrapped up in pursuing him in his WORD. Making a commitment to Jesus necessitates making a personal commitment to God’s Word. How can you make a greater commitment to God’s Word? Let’s look together to see the ways and find out!
